FAQ

Feel free to contact me if you have a question that’s not answered below!

Pricing varies based on the complexity of the design and the number of details; most dolls are in the $30-45 range.  I provide quotes for custom commissions on a case by case basis, factoring in additional design time and supplies.  Click here for more information on custom requests.

I do!  In fact, many of the designs in the gallery were originally custom commissions.  I’ve done several different types of custom requests, including characters I haven’t made before, variations on existing designs (such as modeling a Broadway character after a different actor), and dolls based on real people.  Click here for more information on custom requests, including ideas on how to commemorate yourself or a friend and your favorite show merch!

I get this question a lot, but unfortunately I don’t know for sure!  One of these days I’ll sit down and actually measure one from start to finish.  I do have a full time job, so I mostly work on dolls incrementally in the evenings and on weekends… and I binge watch a *lot* of Hulu an Netflix while I crochet!  The total time varies depending on the overall complexity and number of details in a particular design, but if I absolutely had to guess, I’d estimate an average of 6-8 hours.

The time for me to complete and ship a doll after purchase depends on my overall schedule and how many other orders I’m working through in my queue.  I start from a baseline of 2 weeks and give a current time estimate when someone contacts me with a request or makes a purchase.

Unfortunately, there’s not an easy formula for scaling up the size of a pattern – it would take more than just multiplying the number of stitches to maintain the shape and proportions.  For that reason, I don’t make my completed dolls in any size other than the original (approximately 6″ tall).  However, for people who have purchased a pattern and would like to experiment, I suggest using a larger hook and either a thicker yarn or multiple pieces of yarn held together.  PlanetJune also has some great advice in this blog post and in her ebook “The Complete Guide to Giant Amigurumi.”

Amigurumi is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed toys. The name is derived from the Japanese words ami, meaning crocheted or knitted, and nuigurumi, meaning stuffed doll. Learn more here.
